Xfinity: Iconic X

XFINITY - ICONIC X: GAMING SPEEDS SOCIAL CAMPAIGN

THE X BRIEF

Build an eye catching OLV animated short with attention grabbing visuals to highlight Xfinity Internet’s gig speed directed towards streamers and hardcore gamers.

Highlight individual gaming devices in tight shots individually as they drift around a gamer/streamer themed room. The elements start to come together connecting and morphing into a shape.

The camera pulls out wide to reveal all the pieces snapping or joining together in the shape of the iconic Xfinity X.

A 15 second version and a 5 second version to play before online videos and social media platforms

MY CONTRIBUTION

I was able to have a lot of freedom with this project, so the majority of the spot was my contribution. The art direction, animating, scene design, lighting, and texturing. I owned the edit and had some great help from the audio guys there.

I couldn’t have done it without the help of fellow motion artist Luke Davisson. He was able to tackle the keyboard morphing shot for me and get the project over the finish line after I went out of town. So huge shoutout and many thanks to him for the help and brainstorming sessions.

CREATIVE PROCESS

The process that I’ve adapted for these Iconic X projects always starts with getting ideas down on paper. Brainstorming ideas for elements and layouts that would eventually encompass the X. Below you can see those actual sketches as well as a little montage of the development process of that X. You can see how the design changed from console gamer to PC gamer.

From there it came down to what kind of environment this X and these elements were going to live in. I was given the task of creating a “streamers” room or “gaming room” and I came up with a mix of a bedroom, living room, and

media room combination that would be filled with the cool neon/gaming themed items. Lava lamps and things.

Almost always, the deadline for these Comcast jobs is very VERY tight - sometimes as little as a week. The challenge with this project was the morphing shots and because we purchased our models to save time, it was a difficult learning curve that ate up time. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.
