SPANX: SILVER LINING COLLECTION
THE BRIEF
Create content for a brand manifesto video which highlights the “sexy science” of the material which makes up the infamous white jeans for the brand.
Create an end card which wraps up the whole video and calls out the three key features of the white jeans - smooth, stretchy, and never see through.
MY CONTRIBUTIONS
Throughout the development of the pitch, the ever evolving look and feel of the manifesto video asked for various renders and simulations which highlighted the white jean fabric. This ultimately led to incorporating the slogan of smooth, stretchy, and never see-through into an end card.
Endless amounts of cloth texture tests, cloth simulations, and cloth renders were created.
For the end card, the idea I had was to have the cloth behave in it’s three forms, on top of the “X” of the Spanx logo. You can see in the smoothing shot, the camera is focused on the middle of the X where as the stretch focuses on the serif of the “X” shape.
CREATIVE PROCESS
The main thing about this project was how can I create these simulations fast. A lot of trial and error, YouTube, and hunting in forums went into this process of being optimized so these cloth simulations were almost in real time. Because as we know, sometimes simulations with dense geometry can take an hour before even being rendered. I was able to come up with a pretty good solve to which I was able to crank out these simulations and ultimately art direct the look and feel I was after.
Software used: Cinema 4D R25, Redshift, X Particles, and After Effects.
